Vollard Suite Mix is a series of drawings and prints made with my daughter Meriel between the age of 3 and 4. Sharpie and iPad drawings and paintings.
My influence has been the desire to depict and idyllic, mythic study of the creative life and how it embeds itself in the family life. Based on the idea that when there is nothing right with the world where do i go?
The title refers to Picasso's Vollard Suite of etchings that is also about family, lovers and art.
I have been making lenticular pieces since 2002. They are images are animated, that move in relation to you, like some cinema ads. I use Flash to create the animation and tweak and reorder the parts in Photoshop. The content has been nature and landscape realized by distant means, underscoring the difficult relationship between Nature and Technology.
Lummoxland is a series of pieces made after the movie 'Lummox'. In the film I try to resolve the issue of creating a figure to inhabit the landscape pieces I was making. This character, the Lummox, an early 70s British yob came to represent a guardian, a watchman, a ferryman to to the other side. Nature's physical avatar.
The work refers to both late romantic painting and its obsession with the dark side of transcendence and its use of folk mythology to embody it. Along with traditional abstract painting's gestural approach and the texture of video games.
The series consists of fujiflex prints mounted onto wooden supports.

Press from the last 16 years
" I started the Mash-Ups in 2010, my idea was to pick the top ten sellers at auction of the early 2000s and mix the work together, two at a time. We used to have a gloriously horrible best-of-the-year round-up record in Britain in the late eighties calledStars on 45. All the Number 1s of the year would be mixed together to a click track. I wanted the sensation of having the beat on one turntable and the hook on the other. I don't draw on or collage onto the art; I displace the contours of one image relative to another and mix the colors, like pushing faders on a deck."

These drawings were made using software and rendered with a pen and tablet. Nothing was scanned in. They are images innate to the computer which employs a faux physicality that relates to drawing and its history.
These drawings were shown at the Last Gallery in Wales
This is a video made at a group show curated by Adrian Dannatt called 'Welsh Surrealism' held at the Last Gallery in Llangadog Wales in 2012.
The Last Gallery is run by Mick and Julie Sheridan

Millree Hughes has been living in New York making work on the computer for a while but he went back to his sketch book to try and realize a figure for his digital landscapes.
The drawings are of glam rock loving yobs the kind Millree encountered as a child in the holiday resort village of Towyn, where he grew up, in North Wales in 1972 . He imagined these characters forming a band called Lummox and staged a performance at Miami Basel in 2005.
